It’s been said that timing is everything. That certainly holds true in the world of surfing on many levels. In the case of 17-year-old Surf & Adventure team rider Julian Smith, it all came together when he shared the same Outer Banks lineup with Catch Surf rep Ricky Miller during last week’s incredible day of surf. Julian’s smooth and powerful style paired with his advanced tube riding skills caught the eye of Ricky, who soon thereafter offered Julian a sponsorship from Catch Surf clothing and boards!

Having known Julian for the past few years, I can say that there aren’t many young surfers out there more deserving of the honor. Julian carries himself with a quiet confidence and always lets his surfing do the talking. Equal parts humble and gifted, it’s awesome to see Julian achieve this milestone in his surfing career. And that’s not even mentioning that he also enjoys ripping on Catch Surf’s awesome lineup of soft surfboards. In fact, Julian won the S&A-sponsored “Wheel of Shred” contest hosted by Catch Surf earlier this summer at Little Island Pier! Congratulations to Julian! To celebrate, here is one of the highlights from the day that put Julian on the map — Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015 (aka THE Day) — alongside several more photos of Julian over the past couple of years.
