Photos by Tommy Koehler. Words by John Streit. I’ve got to tell you, it felt really good to cruise through these photos when creating this article. Sure, the lighting is great and Tommy has a keen photographic eye, but the best thing about these moments is the fact that they were captured on Surf & Adventure Co.’s first-ever guided kayak fishing tour! Years in the making, our senior kayak guide and team angler Karis Reventas was amped to host Scott Gage of Upstate New York on the waters of Muddy Creek for an afternoon of chasing the big ones. Armed with life-long knowledge of fishing in Back Bay, Karis took Scott to some real honey holes and came back to the bank having caught two bass — one 17 inches — and a white perch. Stoked! Aside from the thrill of hooking up, the paddle is as scenic as they come in Southeastern Virginia. Cypress tress line the banks alongside tall pines and reeds that seem to glow in the golden afternoon light — making the catches the ultimate icing-on-the-cake.
