Over the years, the most popular page on this website has been our Sandbridge Surf Cam – and for good reason. The camera offered landlocked surfers, beachgoers and daydreamers alike a window to the sea; whether it be for a surf check or just to watch the waves of the Atlantic roll in toward Sandbridge Beach.

After a seven-month hiatus due in part to technical difficulties, we’re proud to announce that our Sandbridge Surf Cam is back and streaming better than ever! Follow the links you see highlighted in this article to check out the new camera in action.

A frame grab from our trial run of the camera on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016. We were fortunate to have a 1- to 3-foot swell, clean conditions and beautiful afternoon skies for this test. Surfers, note the scale of the wave to the posts on the beach. This set wave is between 2 to 3 feet.

Our new camera, powered by Vista Webcams, presents the best video clarity and fluid streaming we’ve ever been able to offer. Fans of this site will remember the previous edition of the cam, which displayed a freeze frame photo every three seconds. While this offered a serviceable view for checking the surf, often the waves’ best moments were lost in between the clips. Additionally, the old cam was also fairly difficult to maintain for a number of reasons.

After searching high and low for better equipment – as well as a better location for mounting – we’ve come to this view of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as a portion of the beach in the foreground to give viewers a true sense of “being there.” The panoramic beach scene is also helpful to surfers seeking scale for the size of the day’s surf. The camera is located near Sandbridge’s famed S-Turns stretch, which is well-known for being both the most consistent and popular surf breaks along our beach. This also means that you’ll have a front seat for some serious ripping from our community of talented and dedicated surfers once a swell arrives.

Another 2- to 3-foot peeler on 2/11/16.

Again, we couldn’t be happier to reintroduce this service to the Sandbridge and surfing communities. Surf & Adventure always strives to provide you with the best gear and knowledge for taking on the surf, and our Sandbridge Surf Cam is yet another valuable tool to the local surfer. But beyond being a functional viewpoint for surfers, it also offers an escape for anyone who just wants to stare out at the sea from anywhere they may be. I’ll always remember an email we received from a woman from upstate New York, in which she said she watched the surf cam every day with her morning coffee to see the sun rise over the ocean.

So whatever your use for viewing our Sandbridge Surf Cam, we hope you enjoy it!
