Sunday, Dec. 8 was one of those days for which the couch was invented: cold rain and northeast wind belted the area while the tube yielded images of snow-covered NFL fields and the laptop streamed the opening day of Pipe Masters. Fortunately for those of us who tuned in for the Super Bowl of surfing, we rested easy knowing that tomorrow would bring some fun-sized swell and perfect offshore winds. Sure enough, Monday, Dec. 9 delivered glassy waist- to chest-high peelers from sunup to sundown. After a spotty fall swell season, it was great to score some clean, fun conditions right here at home, even with the chilly temps and the occasional rain squall.
