Hayley Coakes Follow Surf & Adventure Co. crewman Shaun Devine on his surfing adventure through New Zealand. This is the second of Volume 6′s three-part series. Words and photos by Shaun Devine. The Spot really reminded me of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There are cliffs, headlands, caves, and a massive jetty for cruise ships — but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m referring to the fact that this South Island, North Coast lineup boasts similar swell characteristics to the legendary sandbars of Dare County, NC. It’s a fun, punchy beach break that, on it’s day, can produce a variety of barrels, A-frames and rip-able lines over the course of a well-defined, spread-out lineup. This was by far one of my top three places to shoot and surf in New Zealand. Down the beach drainer I had the second-best view at this beauty.
