Photo: Devine. Words and Photos by Shaun Devine As legendary Sportscenter anchor Stuart Scott once said, “As cool as the other side of the pillow.” Yes, the other side of the pillow was cold that morning. The little Nags Head beach box house we were staying in didn’t have central heat, and the subsequent space heaters were turned off at night for safety. It was also a very cool morning outside: one of the first frosts of the season and we were all relieved that we brought 3 mm booties. Despite the promising forecast for fun-sized barrels, similar to some of the days we’ve had in the past few weeks, the coolest part of the day was quickly realizing at first light that it wasn’t going to be one of those days. So we flipped the pillow, grabbed our single fins and small wave boards, let some air out of the tires and went searching. It was cool. Photo: Devine. Photo: Devine. Shaun Devine.
