“This is the best vibe First Street Jetty has ever had.”

To the ears of a Virginia Beach surfer, that statement really resonates. There were no paddle-battles, staredowns or snakes on Saturday, May 31. Good vibes only.

That’s thanks to our local Billabong crew headed by Ken Hunt for spearheading the Wave Warriors Surf Camp. The event draws in combat-wounded veterans from across the country to experience the thrill of wave riding as passed on to them by real surfers.

Spirits were high and the conditions were challenging, but compared to their recent experiences on deployment, it was all fun in the sun. Feeling the camaraderie and the immense collective effort to achieve the goal of a great time for the veterans was unforgettable.

Enjoy these images of one of surfing’s true world-class events.
